Top prop dropped, or the bet you didn’t make at Bet365

Bad news, Live Bets Direct fans: The folks over at Bet365.com are much cleverer than The Os Man. To wit: Yesterday in this space, revelation was promised vis-à-vis the single easiest bet in the entire 2009 Eurovision Song Contest prop bet universe.

Bet 365’s most tantalizing proposition bet was entitled “Eurovision Song Contest: To Finish Last in 2nd Semi Final. Topping the table was the Netherlands’ entry – “Shine” by the Toppers – at 5/2. Right, so just hold that thought and check out as much of the following video as you can stand.

“What,” you may now ask, “the hell was that?”

And you may follow the first incredulous question with a second: “Who the hell did these guys beat?”

No matter: 5/2 odds on the Netherlands placing last are well to generous. If ever a Eurovision Song Contest tune had “zero points” written all over it, it’s “Shine.”

Unfortunately, the use of past tense in this piece indeed indicates that this Bet365.com offering is just that: past tense. Yesterday morning, the Os Man was betting on the prop; by the afternoon, it was off the boards, my LiveBetsDirect article half-unwritten.

The good news, one supposes, is that the LiveBetsDirect crack research team – which is to say, “me” –  was able to test Bet365.com customer service, and this online bookmaker got good marks. Though Bet 365 does not employ live chat and customers must use the tedious inquire-and-reply via email, a customer service rep answered my question within a couple of hours. Nice job, sad answer.

So how about not quite a sure bet, but a solid one? No problem!

In Bet365’s intriguing “To win match” Eurovision proposition bets, Denmark (at 8/11) is a slight favorite over Lithuania (1/1). With second-round favorites Greece and Norway plus Hungary all deploying studboys – not to mention better songs – Lithuania’s Sasha Son is working from a disadvantage already. Combine this with Sasha’s placement directly after the Greek titan Sakis Rouvas, and things don’t look great for the Lithuania bid against Finland’s contender for the finals.

The Os Man’s advice: Envy those who got in on the Netherlands bet, and throw a little coin Finland’s way in this one.
